Ledzokuku: Dr. Okoe Boye loses seat to NDC’s Benjamin Ayiku Narteh

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ledzokuku constituency Benjamin Ayiku Narteh has dethroned incumbent Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a margin of 1,866 votes.

After nearly 18 hours of counting and verification at the Teshie Police Station, Mr. Narteh obtained 55,938 votes compared to 54,072 votes for Dr. Okoe Boye of the NPP.

Lord Adjetey Doku of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) got 674 votes to finish third, while the National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate Lucky Mensah finished with 137.

In a result stated by the returning official from Ledzokuku constituency, Mr. James Boateng, there were 110,821 valid votes with 766 rejected votes. The total of votes cast was 111,587.

Narteh’s victory maintains the trend of a constituency term in 24 years since the late Nii Adjei Boye Sekan won the seat consecutively in 1992 and 1996 respectively.

Dr. Okoe Boye had been tipped to break the curse of a mandate after having proven to be one of the fastest growing politicians in the country.

Meanwhile, in the presidential race, NDC’s John Dramani Mahama registered 59,096 votes while President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo got 50,530 to win the race.

In third place, GUM’s Christian Kwabena Andrew got 747 votes, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet got 81 votes and Akua Donkor got 19.

Henry Herbert Lartey of the Great Consolidated People’s Party (GCPP) got 11, Hassan Ayariga of APC and Kofi Akpaloo of LPG both had 21 votes respectively.

David Apasera of the National People’s Convention (PNC) got eight, Brigitte Dzogbenuku of the PPP got 34 votes, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings of the NDP got 33, while Alfred Kwame Asiedu Walker, an independent presidential candidate, got 35 votes.

In the presidential race, there were a total valid votes of 110,626, a total of rejected votes of 1,311 and a total of votes cast of 111,937.

The Ledzokuku constituency becomes one of several seats claimed by the NDC in Greater Accra following victories at Krowor and La Dadekotopon.
