Ghana has been selected as the production base for Aphro Beverages, a pan-African beverage company that launched its first product, Aphro, on Saturday 19 December in Accra.

The owners of the new alcoholic beverage brand have also hired a local team that has overseen product development, Research and Development (R&D), as well as marketing.

In a speech at the launch, Aphro Ghana CEO Kojo Bucknor said he was very confident that the product will exist for many decades.

“Its distinctive quality, in terms of taste and brand, is what truly sets us apart from the rest. Aphro has been carefully crafted, taking into account all required health and safety measures, to make it the alcoholic beverage of choice in the African market. At Aphro, we have an African drink that meets the needs of global consumers. “

He also assured that the brand will be a pioneer on the continent and beyond.

The company is 100% self-financed by a group of friends made up of former Wall Street bankers, private equity professionals, executives from multinational African companies and one of the world’s best-selling Afrobeats artists, Peter Okoye. It will also operate as a free zone entity with the aim of exporting most of the product to the rest of Africa and the diaspora.

Peter Okoye, co-founder of Aphro Beverages, said the brand is an example of the excellence that can be achieved if Africans work together.

“When Africans work together in unity, we can come up with brands that can compete favorably on the world stage,” he said.

Therefore, he called on “all Africans to sponsor Afro. This provides a unique opportunity for Africans to support us not only because it is our brand, but also because it is a high quality premium brand. This is our own African brand that is as good as the global brands that we currently feature in our music videos and movies. Let’s come together to promote a truly African brand. “

Aphro will retail for between $ 25 and $ 35 and is available in more than 300 outlets in Ghana.

Several big names from the African business and entertainment industry converged on the product launch.

Internationally acclaimed Nigerian musician Peter Okoye, formerly known for PSquare; Actress Juliet Ibrahim, Mawuli Gavor, AJ Sarpong, and Hajia 4real were among the star-studded celebrity cast that attended the launch.

Also at the launch was multi-award-winning rapper Sarkodie.
