Joan Laporta has continued to mock Real Madrid while increasing his bid to become Barcelona president for the second time. He will run for the top position in the January elections in the Catalan club.

As part of his presidential campaign, Laporta displayed a massive canvas of himself next to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. “I hope to see you again,” it said.

Laporta was president of Barcelona from 2003 to 2010, spearheading a club renaissance that culminated in 6-2 and 5-0 defeats of Real Madrid.

“The poster is like saying: ‘I hope to score six against you,'” Laporta told Dani Senabre’s YouTube channel.

“That poster means mischief, preparation, experience … that I really want to relive that rivalry with respect, between the two teams. We have to turn the economic situation of the club around to do so.”

One way to boost the club’s financial position may, according to Laporta, come from Lionel Messi, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

“Messi is a way of generating income,” added Laporta.

As part of the chat with Senabre, Laporta also got involved with the voting bloc of the Barcelona members.

“We are focused on having as many signatures as possible and explaining our project, respecting all candidates,” he continued. “We have a winning mentality but we are focused on getting people to vote for us.

“I don’t want Barcelona to become a PLC. It has to be left to its members.”
