Ghana’s land and sea borders will remain closed until further notice, President Akufo-Addo said.

He said this is part of the measures taken to reduce the importation of more cases of Covid-19 while opening up sectors of the country’s economy.

In his sixteenth speech to the nation on current measures to curb the virus, he paved the way for the reopening of airports for international traffic, however, he noted that land and sea borders must remain closed.

“To avoid doubts, our borders, by land and sea, will remain closed to human trafficking until further notice.

President Akufo-Addo on Sunday paved the way for the reopening of the country’s air border for international traffic, after nearly six months of closure.

He said that from September 1, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) will reopen and resume operations.

“This decision has been communicated to international airlines around the world,” the president said.

However, some measures have been implemented to regulate airport operations so as not to import more cases into the country.

He insists that already existing Covid-19 protocols must also be strictly adhered to.

However, land and sea borders that have also been closed since March, he said, should remain closed until further notice.

Meanwhile, the country’s case count currently stands at 44,205 with 42, 77 recoveries, 276 deaths, and 1,152 active cases.
