Frank Lampard has revealed that his wife, Christine, will not organize any social gatherings if their Chelsea team falls in defeat because it turns into a ‘nightmare’.
Lampard, still relatively new to the management field, continues to get used to the immense scrutiny and pressure that follows a Premier League boss.
And Lampard, who recently led Chelsea on an impressive streak of form, has admitted that his win-at-all-cost mentality has led him and his wife, TV host Christine, to miss out on many nights together.
Speaking on Eddie Hearn’s podcast: No Passion, No Points, the Chelsea boss, whose will to win is obvious to all, having been involved in various ranks with players like Jurgen Kloopp and José Mourinho, revealed: ‘We They are not allowed to organize dinners or any kind of post-game gathering in case the worst comes to the worst, because if we lose, I am a nightmare. I can’t help it, it’s part of the course.
“I had a year in the media, which was a complete drop from the pressures to play and the pressures that I receive now. And as Christine will joke, I was a much better, calmer, more relaxed Frank.
“A manager has 50 problems a day. It takes a lot more, but I love it and couldn’t live without it. What you need is a really caring family.
‘With your kids that’s a bit more difficult because they just want dad, they just want you to give them your absolute attention and those are precious moments.
“I come home from work and see their smiles. I know it’s a bit cliché, but it doesn’t help you half when you’ve had a lot of problems during the day.
Lampard, arguably the greatest player in Chelsea history, is currently in his second season at Chelsea having come back from the Derby after just one season in management.
Lampard is under more pressure to succeed this period following Chelsea’s £ 253 million summer spending spree, and the Blues boss has claimed scrutiny is on another level as manager at the highest level compared to be a footballer.
Lampard added: ‘Now I realize that it is much more difficult than playing in terms of consumption. I had to put my ego in the door a bit and say that I could ruin what I accomplished in 13 years to some extent, because if it doesn’t go well, I will be judged harshly and quickly.
“ Personally I am so motivated that my biggest fear is myself. If I try to fool him as Chelsea manager, it won’t work.
After a rocky start to the season, Lampard’s team is currently in impressive form, having won their last four matches in all competitions.
The Blues have been hugely propped up on defense, conceding just once in their last six games.
And Lampard will be desperate for his team to continue their hot streak when they face Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday lunchtime.
