Frank Lampard has praised Chelsea star Mason Mount after his winning display in his 1-0 win over Fulham.

The 22-year-old scored the only goal of the game at the end of a hard-fought victory against an opponent who was left with ten men in the first half.

Mount, who previously hit the crossbar, scored the winning goal after 78 minutes with a half volley after Alphonse Areola rocked a cross from Ben Chilwell.

After the match, Lampard praised his player and compared Mount to his own development when the Chelsea legend joined the club when he was 22 years old in 2001.

He told Sky Sports: ‘Mason was outstanding in the game. He deserves the praise for his way of playing.

Mason was in a bit of a deeper role at the time, but he could still get to the box. He needs to score more goals Mason, he knows, but his quality is brilliant, his attitude is brilliant and he deserves it. ‘

Then he said at his press conference: ‘I thought his overall performance was fantastic; It has been very good for us, last year and this year.

“It’s a great example of what I mean when I talk about youth, he turned 22 last week. I came to Chelsea at 22, and I wasn’t wowing the world in my freshman year or so, I was finding my feet, but Mason already has so many games under his belt.

‘When you look through our first line, you have Pulisic, similar age group, Kai Havertz, similar age group, Callum Hudson-Odoi, younger age group, Tammy [Abraham], Scam [Werner], they are all young.

Mount’s performance also impressed Sky Sports experts Jamie Redknapp and Wayne Bridge, with the former Chelsea defender claiming the 22-year-old is “their best player” at this point.

Redknapp added: “Not just his goal, he was the man today for Chelsea. From minute one he wanted the ball and made things happen. He was energetic, he pushed, and he had this crucial moment with a really important volley.

“He had energy, he set the pace, the whole game. Frank has a few players on that team that he’ll pick every week. It’s one, and there’s only a few of them.

‘He’s one, (Edouard) Mendy, Thiago Silva is amazing, (Ben) Chilwell, there are only a few of them.

“That’s his first goal in 13 Premier League games, he needs to do that more.”

So far this season, Mount has scored three goals in 25 appearances across all competitions.
