La Liga has lowered Barcelona’s salary cap by more than 288 million euros.

The cap was € 671 million last season and has now been set at € 382.7 million, a drop of € 288.3 million.

The total salary limit for the 20 La Liga clubs is 2.33 billion euros, 610 million less than last season.

Real Madrid was reduced to 468.5 million euros from 641 million euros, while Atlético de Madrid to 252.7 million euros from 384.5 million euros.

Each club already knew theirs, but La Liga released the figures today for reasons of transparency.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on the figures available for each club, with Barcelona more affected than anyone.

Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, had already made clear the serious economic problem that the pandemic has caused in Spanish football and spoke with Marca about the need to reduce expenses.

“We still have an overspending of around € 500 million because clubs cannot change players with contracts,” he said. “An exercise has been done to reduce wages. The most affected in Spain are Valencia, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“The bigger the club, the more it will be affected. It will be difficult for players to join the winter market. “

The words of Thebes have been reflected in the figures: last summer there was a 66% reduction in player purchases compared to the summer of 2019.
