Former Ghana Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has appealed on behalf of former Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi to release him from his current legal dispute with the government.

The member of parliament for the Ododiodio constituency made this statement following a recent call from some soccer administrators who have started the Free Nyantakyi Movement.

Former CAF First Vice President resigned from his seat following a documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas on corruption in Ghana soccer. Nyantakyi was seen in the video accepting gifts that were against FIFA’s code of ethics, leading to his subsequent ban by FIFA.

Nii Lante has supported the call for the government to release Kwasi Nyantakyi, as he continues to face some legal charges.

“If people long for the free Nyantakyi movement, I don’t think there is anything wrong. In this world, I think everyone should get a second chance. Even God, who created us, forgives our sins and offers us a second chance. Even murderers have the opportunity to reform in prisons, as long as they are not killed, ”he told Asampa FM in an interview.

Nii Lante, who was noted for his hostile relationship with the GFA president during his time as Sports Minister, said that he had nothing against the former Ghana FA chief, only that they disagreed on certain issues.

“I have nothing against Nyatakyi as a person, he is my friend and I don’t think he also has something personal against me. Only we do not agree on the ways to do certain things. It means that as human beings our path can cross at any time. He believed that this is the way we have been doing things while I thought that this is how we have to do it, and that should not cause a problem between us, ”said Mr. Vanderpuye.

Former Ghana FA chief is serving a lifetime ban from FIFA.
