Former Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah has declined sharply in the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for his reluctance to pay his salary arrears, alleging that former team coach Avram Grant had the same issue with the FA but received different treatment.
Appiah, who had a monthly salary of $ 35,000 when he was in charge of Black Stars, is demanding his unpaid wages for six months from August 2019 to December 2019, totaling $ 175,000 and a winning bonus of $ 10,000.
The embittered trainer instructed his attorneys to serve the GFA with a lawsuit notice giving them seven days to make the payment.
However, Henry Asante Twum, who is the FA Public Relations Officer, has denied the allegations that his team owes the former Al Khartoum Watani coach the outstanding wages, saying the Ghanaian government owes the 59-year-old man.
According to Appiah, the Ghanaian FA paid him in full after separating from the latter, and otherwise does not know why his situation is different.
“I don’t know what happens to Ghanaians because my situation is like Avram Grant’s. The FA, after separating from Grant, paid his arrears in only one month.
“They should ask themselves what I do to survive because I have been home for eight months without working,” he added.
The 2017-2019 spell was Appiah’s second term in charge of the Black Stars after a first reign between 2012 and 2014.
The nation’s soccer governing body decided not to renew its recent contract, which expired in December, due to Ghana’s disappointing exit from the round of 16 round at the African Cup of Nations last year.
