It was a difficult time for the famous traditional worshiper, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, on Tuesday morning when he appeared before the traditional court of Asantehemaa Nana Ama Konadu at the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom.

It was then that Akomadan-Afrancho’s fetish priest appeared in court to answer why he invoked curses on the Offinso North constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Augustine Collins Ntim.

Summoning curses in the Golden Kingdom has been banned by Manhyia, but the feared traditionalist defied the order and hurled curses on the deputy, who happens to be a deputy minister for Local Government and Rural Development.

Nana Kwaku Bonsam caused the power of six deities, both local and foreign, to ruthlessly treat any voter who was transported to the Offinso Norte constituency to vote at the parliamentary polls on December 7.

The ‘Kofi oo Kofi’ devotee will contest the electoral district of Offinso Norte in the next elections as an independent candidate.

It was his firm belief that his challenger, Mr. Ntim, during the vote registration and transfer exercises, bused non-constituency voters to participate in the exercise.

Realizing that the move will go against him on Election Day, the feared traditional worshiper took the infamous action to stop it.

Sensing the danger, the deputy minister therefore denounced Nana Kwaku Bonsam before the traditional court of Asantehemaa.

At Tuesday’s hearing, the court asked the fetish priest whether he was guilty of the crime or not.

In his response, he admitted his guilt and then pleaded with the court to allow a peaceful resolution of the matter.

Accepting her plea, the chiefs took turns scolding Nana Kwaku Bonsam for her action, describing it as an affront to the Asante tradition.

They were unhappy that a prominent fetish priest of their caliber would stoop so low to denigrate the Asante tradition with such hideous behavior.

He was subsequently sentenced to a series of fines, colliding with several thousand Ghanaian cedis and a full-blown horned sheep to pacify the gods and also reverse the curse.

The chiefs made it clear to him that were it not for his status and his prompt admission of guilt, he would have been made to present four sheep traditionally worshiped for pacification and reversal of the curse.

However, he was warned not to repeat such an untraditional action because the consequences for him will be severe next time.

While Nana Kwaku Bonsam was present in person for the hearing, Mr. Ntim was represented by party executives, who had a power of attorney to represent the MP due to their busy schedules.
