Asante Kotoko’s left-back Christopher Nettey has expressed his happiness at being called up for the first time to Ghana’s senior team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double qualifying game against Sudan.
The 22-year-old defender received a belated invitation from Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor, who continued to add local players to his squad after Bechem United’s Prince Adu Kwabena and Ashanti Gold’s Kwadwo Amoako.
The versatile defender has revealed his surprise by winning an invitation to the Black Stars for the 2021 African Cup of Nations double-headed duels against Sudan.
“It’s a dream come true, I’m very excited about being called up,” he told Kickgh.com.
Nettey hopes to impress CK Akonnor in upcoming games to increase his chances of winning a second call-up in subsequent Black Stars matches.
“I have come this far as a result of hard work and dedication and I am going to do the same to cement a place in the team. I am ready to learn from my elders and implement on the field when they give me the go ahead.”
“I will continue to work hard so that everyone who has supported me since the beginning of my career will feel proud,” he concluded.
Black Stars host Sudan in a double game with the first match scheduled for Thursday, November 12 at Cape Coast Sports Stadium before facing the same opponent in the reverse match at Omdurman on Tuesday, November 17.
