Asante Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah admitted that he made a mistake firing Maxwell Konadu.
In an interview with Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Amponsah stated that he did not inform the board of directors before terminating the contract of the former Black Stars assistant coach.
“I made a mistake firing Maxwell Konadu because I did not write officially to report to the board,” said Amponsah, who was appointed by the board in August.
“I admit that I am wrong and I accept it. Maxwell Konadu’s records at Kotoko weren’t bad, but it was time for him to leave and other great clubs in the world have, but again I admit I was wrong for not informing the board.
Konadu, a former Kotoko striker, was fired after his shock 1-0 loss at the Great Olympics. It was Kotoko’s first loss in the 2020/21 season.
The club is currently under the leadership of Johnson Smith until a new head coach is found.
Since Konadu’s departure, Kotoko has been involved in two games in which they recorded a win and a loss. The defeat came in the Caf Champions League clash with Al Hilal in Accra.
The disappointing 1-0 result means Kotoko is on the verge of elimination from the competition in the second round stage.
