Asante Kotoko has fired coach Maxwell Konadu after his first loss of the season at the hands of the Grand Olympics on Thursday.
The Porcupine Warriors failed to impress as they lost 1-0 in Ghana’s outstanding Premier League fixture in Accra.
Assistant coach Johnson Smith will take over the team on an interim basis while the club decides on a replacement.
“The Asante Kotoko Sporting Club management wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with coach Maxwell Konadu as its head coach with immediate effect. Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the meantime, ”Kotoko announced on Twitter.
In Konadu’s first season with the Porcupine Warriors, he won the league comfortably, finishing 14 points ahead of his neighbors Ashanti Gold to claim his 22nd league title in history.
In the 30 games played, Konadu’s team won 18, drew nine and lost only three.
However, his second coming was nowhere near his first as the former Black Stars B coach struggled to get in shape.
After being named in 2019, Konadu has overseen 20 games as Kotoko’s boss winning just nine of them, drawing seven and losing four.
The Porcupine Warriors play Dreams FC in Dawu before hosting Al Hilal in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
