A fire outbreak has been reported in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Korle-Bu University Hospital (KBTH).
According to management, the fire was caused by an electrical failure in the ICU.
In an interview, the hospital’s public relations officer, Mustapha Salifu, said there were no victims.
In addition, he noted that the fire was quickly put out by facility personnel.
“The fire was detected early, so we were able to handle it as soon as it started,” he said.
Mr. Salifu added that three Covid-19 patients who were receiving treatment in the ward have subsequently been transferred to the University of Ghana Medical Center.
He revealed that the UCI will be renewed after the incident.
This outbreak follows a series of fires recorded in the Greater Accra region in November alone.
On November 5, a fire destroyed the Cathedral Clinic and Laboratory on Accra High Street.
Subsequently, on November 18, hundreds of stalls at the Odawna market on Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra were destroyed following a fire outbreak.
Merchants’ belongings and money were also burned beyond recognition.
The following day, the fire was reported to have swept through parts of the Sakumono School Complex in Accra.
The most recent occurred on Saturday when the GCB Bank in Kantamanto was consumed in hell.
