The GFA Ethics Committee has decided to prohibit Mr. Kofi Manu from participating in all football-related activities for a period of one year to In breach of article 18 of the GFA Code of Ethics (2019).
The GFA Ethics Committee at its meeting held on December 10, 2020 found that Mr. Kofi Manu had violated Article 18 of the GFA Code of Ethics (2019) (Duty to Cooperate) which imposes the duty to help and cooperate honestly, completely and in good faith with the Ethics Committee at all times, and not take any action, actually or apparently, with the intention of obstructing, evading or otherwise interfering with any actual or potential procedure of the Ethics Committee.
The Committee has initiated proceedings on the alleged participation of Mr. Kofi Manu in the documentary number 12 of Tiger Eye. Mr. Manu was notified in a letter dated November 23, 2020, to appear before the Committee in person on Thursday, December 3, 2020.
A copy of the Tiger Eye video was added to the letter. However, Mr. Manu did not appear before the GFA Ethics Committee. Manu also did not comply with a previous invitation to appear before the Ethics Committee on November 19, 2020.
In a letter dated December 1, 2020, Mr. Manu raised several issues that could have been resolved had he attended the meeting scheduled for December 3, 2020.
On the basis of his conduct, the Committee found Mr. Kofi Manu guilty of violating article 18, which imposes the following sanctions in the event of violation:
- fine of at least GHc5,000
- a ban on participating in any football-related activity for a maximum of two years
Looking ahead, the Committee hopes that Mr. Kofi Manu will act in good faith and desist from acts that could discredit the image of the game and the GFA.
COMMITTEE DECISION
The Committee’s decision is:
- Prohibit Mr. Kofi Manu from participating in any football-related activity for a period of one year with immediate effect in accordance with article 18 (6) of the GFA Code of Ethics.
- To impose on Mr. Kofi Manu a fine of GHc5000. Payment will be made to GFA within 14 days of receipt of this Decision.
- Kofi Manu is expected to appear at the next Committee session on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 4:00 pm, otherwise the Committee will continue with its work without further reference to him.
If Mr. Kofi Manu is not satisfied or aggrieved by this Decision, he has a period of three (3) days from notification of the reasons for the decision to appeal to the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association.
