One of the five presidential hopefuls disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) from participating in the 2020 General Elections has asked President Akufo-Addo to intervene in the matter.

Kofi Koranteng, who was running as an independent candidate, stated that President Akufo-Addo must make the EC fulfill its mandate and have the decision reversed.

“We are not asking the president to do us favors. We ask the president to entrust the EC to do what it has to do, ”he said.

Koranteng was one of 17 candidates running in the December 7 presidential election. However, he, along with 4 other applicants, were disqualified for forgery and can no longer compete after disqualification from the CE.

It is alleged that the signatures were forged and the endorsements fabricated on their nomination forms.

Following their disqualification, the EC assured that the case will be referred to the Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID), however, the disqualified applicants have not yet been invited by the CID for further investigation.

However, Kofi Koranteng believes that the EC is being truly undemocratic with the decision and has therefore urged President Akufo-Addo to intervene for the sake of the nation’s democracy.

“This is the moment when he [the President] need to intervene with your administration to say the [EC’s] The process has been undemocratic, “he added.
