Klopp on Champions League Exit: He Was Really Angry About the Way Atletico played – Ghana Soccer Latest News, Live Scores, Results

Jurgen Klopp has revealed how his reaction to suffering the Champions League against Atlético de Madrid in March was put into perspective. The second leg at Anfield, during which Diego Simeone’s team prevailed in overtime, was the last high-profile match played before much of Europe was locked out at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

“I woke up on Monday morning [March 9] and I heard about Madrid closing schools and universities, “Klopp said in a new film ‘The End of the Storm,’ documenting his time at Liverpool.” We had an incredibly important Champions League game against Atlético. And we had between five and six thousand people from Madrid who would come to the game tomorrow. That made absolutely no sense.

“It was very difficult that night to prepare a football match, to ask the players to do everything possible to win it, without knowing what would happen the next day.” I remember being very angry about the way Atlético de Madrid played. But five minutes after doing all my interviews I thought, ‘What an idiot you are, you worry about losing a football game, but the world is in the most difficult place of all.’
