The Reds boss didn’t shy away from the reality of the shocking result, but was relieved that all of his players left the game in one piece.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp highlighted the only “good news” following his team’s 7-2 loss to Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.
After seeing Alisson ruled out for injury in preparation for the game, the Reds coach was relieved that no other player was injured at Villa Park.
Alisson will now miss up to six weeks through injury and Adrian failed to impress between sticks in his absence against Dean Smith’s side.
Klopp did not shy away from his team’s poor performance on Sunday, but still managed to find a positive lead from defeat.
“The only good news is that no one was injured after the game,” Klopp said after the game.
On the impact of the squad’s current injuries and absences, he added: “That’s really for fans and journalists to do this kind of thing, ‘he’s not, he’s not, he’s not.’ There’s no need for an excuse, absolutely not.
“Regardless of which team we might have lined up tonight, I wouldn’t expect to lose 7-2, to be honest, 100 percent. Not necessary, absolutely not necessary.
“I said it at the beginning and it’s true, Aston Villa did very, very well, but we also helped. This game has its own dynamic and then the influence goes in that direction, one team is flying and the other team is obviously not flying. We know. That, that’s how things can happen, but it shouldn’t happen 4-1 down, half time, you would usually say we try another five minutes and then we just defend.
“Everyone who saw the game had the feeling that if we scored once and then scored [for] 4-2, then the game has probably started or not. Not if we play like tonight, but if we can improve in the game later, then it would have been the game.
“Nothing to do with the players we miss tonight; yes, we obviously missed them, but it had nothing to do with the result or the players who replaced them.”
Following the international break, Liverpool will look to bounce back against top-flight rivals Everton, who are leaders of the Premier League after winning their first four games of the new campaign.
