Klopp Changes His Mind About VAR After Midtjylland Draw Delays – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Score, Results

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits he is changing his mind about using VAR after a frustrating night in Denmark.

The Reds drew 1-1 with Midtjylland in the Group D match after Mohamed Salah scored the club’s fastest goal in the Champions League with just 55 seconds left to break Steven Gerrard’s record for goals in the competition with his 22nd goal.

However, three VAR decisions in the second half, one that awarded the hosts a penalty to equalize through Alexander Scholz, another that denied the Midtjylland striker a second, and a third that scored what would have been a late goal for Takumi Minamino, they affected. the flow of the game.

“It just took too long. I think in the end, I didn’t see it back, the decisions were correct but it was very difficult. It took three or four minutes and it was cold for the guys,” Klopp said.

“It’s very difficult and I could hear people say ‘OMG.’ It took a long time and it was very cold, which doesn’t help.

“I used to be one of the people who said VAR is a good idea. I’m really not sure if I would say that again to be honest. But now we have it.”

Aside from technical difficulties and Kostas Tsimikas’ knee injury, it was a night full of positives for Liverpool.

Teenagers Leighton Clarkson and Billy Koumetio, playing their first senior match, debuted in the Champions League.

Koumetio became the club’s youngest player in the competition after coming into halftime when Liverpool lined up their youngest team.

“He (Koumetio) will learn and especially we let them have the experience without making this game too big,” Klopp added.

“It’s wonderful to have your first Champions League game, but your career is about how many you have.

“Both guys are already very skilled, but they have a lot to learn and we will give them the time to do so.

“They helped us a lot because we were able to rest other players, which is very important.

“I’m pretty sure it was a great night for both of them. I’m really thankful that they’re as good as they are, that’s why we can use them, but I know there’s more to come.”
