Klopp’s team have also lost four straight league games at Anfield for the first time since 1923 during this slump.

When asked at a press conference what it would mean for the club to finish in the Champions League places, Klopp replied: “Great.

“So the game that we played against Leicester, we lost, but the performance that we showed that day, is a game where normally only one team wins. We play against West Ham and I think they are facing us too, but it’s all about the results.

“The table does not lie, never. We know that in terms of performance we are not that far, but we are in terms of results, so that is what we have to change. For all the different reasons why it has been a difficult season until now for us, we have always tried to fix it.

“But while we try to solve one problem, another happens and that’s how it is. That’s in a season where it’s not perfect, which is the case for us, for sure. So it means other clubs with great potential, [Manchester] City, [Manchester] United, Leicester, Chelsea, West Ham that are in and around us. Tottenham have problems similar to what we and Arsenal have, so we have a long way to go.

“We don’t have to think about it really, we have to think about Sheffield United. If we can do that then maybe we are one step closer or not. Chelsea will come too, which will be a proper game, so if we do that. [finish in the top four] in the end, it would be great. “

Liverpool could also secure a place in the Champions League next season by winning the competition this year, and find themselves in a good position to advance to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 lead over RB Leipzig heading into the game. back from his final round. -16 shock.

Ahead of the trip to Sheffield United on Sunday, Klopp also dismissed talks about a possible rebuilding at the club this summer, but said they plan to make changes in the future.

“I don’t think it’s time for a massive rebuilding,” he added. “This year’s team didn’t get a chance to play together so I think it would make sense to look at that as well.

“On top of that, little realignments will happen, so he will react to the situation but at the same time plan for the future. I’m not sure we can do that in the summer to be honest, but that’s what we will try.”
