Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has accused the media of chasing forward Roberto Firminho.
The Brazilian scored in Liverpool’s weekend win over Leicester City after being accused by fans and experts of not scoring enough goals with some of the club’s legends urging the German to start with Diogo Jota in his place.
Speaking on Tuesday, Klopp said: “Scoring was always important to Bobby, but it is a complete football. Football is like an orchestra and if you have different people for the instruments, some of them are louder but they are all important for the rhythm. Bobby can play without (goals) too.
“We always celebrate goals, but this one was very emotional. The players read the newspapers and saw some criticism (of Firmino).”
When asked about the form of Takumi Minamino, who has rarely played for the club since joining in January, Klopp insisted the Japan striker has fought for action only due to the force of Liverpool’s attack.
“Minamino has trained well, really well. It’s just a strong and offensive team, thank goodness! – We haven’t had the same kind of problems. There is no way to bathe for him. Just a challenge. He’s working hard, “he added.
Klopp spoke ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Serie A’s Atalanta.
