The program was organized in the municipality of Kpone to educate women about the increase in breast cancer cases among women recently, its causes and how to avoid the threat of such poor health condition that affects the heart of society. an extraordinary day in the history of Kpone Katamanso as the entire Municipality was illuminated by an event that would be the first of its kind in recent years.
The National Culture Center (CNC), in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education and the Kpone Katamanso Department of Non-Formal Education (NFED), under the auspices of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly, organized a public awareness program on breast cancer awareness for all resident women throughout the municipality.
The program was organized on the theme “Using theater to educate women about breast cancer”; thus, a firm conviction that a devastating health condition like breast cancer can be reduced and subsequently uprooted from society when aligned with the display of the very culture of that same society, hence the promotion of both. This saw a massive attendance of all women throughout the municipality, as well as dignitaries such as: the municipal director of culture; Mrs. Sandra Boison, Mr. Zac Abrahams; The Municipal Director of the Department of the Non-Formal Education Division, the Municipal Director of the NCCE; Mr. Seth Sottie, representatives of the National Culture Center, representatives of the Kpone Traditional Council, Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly staff and all residents.
This fateful program was organized to mark “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” celebrated globally by all women in the month of October to raise awareness about breast cancer including how to help prevent the spread in our societies. Breast cancer, as we all know, has been a major emerging health challenge among women and some men recently.
Women are victims of breast cancer who end up painfully losing their breasts or life in the process. The number of women affected annually is constantly increasing, hence the need to constantly participate in frequent public awareness programs to educate women about what breast cancer is and their individual role in preventing the spread. The women of Kpone Katamanso are no exception to this dispassionate cancer that knows no limits, hence the primary objective of this great initiative.
During the event, there was a theatrical performance by the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Theater Company to educate the women present on the need for regular self-examination and seeking medical attention to control the spread of breast cancer.
The Municipal Cultural Director, Ms. Sandra Boison from KKMA in her speech advised women to constantly examine themselves and visit the hospital for regular check-ups for early diagnosis and to prevent the spread of breast cancer. He added that self-examination is the best resource, as prevention is always better than cure.
Mr. Zac Abrahams, Municipal Director of KKMA’s Non-Formal Education Department, asked women to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols to stay healthy in these difficult times of the global pandemic.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Seth Sotie; The NCCE City Director took the opportunity to inform the participants about the upcoming elections. He recommended that they participate in the general elections peacefully and desist from all nuances of electoral violence and double voting.
Consequently, she acknowledged the presence of the various groups of women present at the event, especially the National Association of Garment Manufacturers and the Ghana Hairdressers Association in Kpone Katamanso Municipality. He said that his dedication and patriotism to the course will receive the highest reward from heaven.
