The South Ketu National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a health walk to preach peace before, during and after the December elections.

The so called “Peace Walk”, which started from Denu to Aflao via Atlantic Breeze Beach, had officials from the Ghana Police Service (GPS), Ghana Education Service (GES) and politicians as participants, mostly young boys.

Ms. Evelyn Klokpodzi, Municipal Director, NCCE, in her message to participants, warned residents, especially young people, to be aware of the vested interests of politicians during the election period and not to be used to put peace in the country in danger.

He underscored the need for peace in South Ketu, the Volta region and Ghana as a whole, saying that the elections should only be a contest of minds, where everyone will tolerate the political views of others.

“Peace in Ghana is important and therefore we must do everything possible to promote and safeguard peace before, during and after elections. I will beg the citizens to do our policy without violence because we are a people, a nation ”.

The NCCE Director asked all eligible voters to demonstrate in their numbers on December 7 to exercise their civic duty and participate in deciding who the future leaders of the country would be.

The Reverend Dometor Henyo, candidate for the South Ketu Parliament by the Ghana Trade Union Movement (GUM), appealed to young people not to be recruited by political actors to foment problems.

He called on the people of Ketu South to scrutinize every campaign message that politicians give them to vote for the right people and parties to advance the development of the area.

“We must not just be voters. We need jobs, we need development. Let’s not take everything they come to tell us. It is important to note that we should not take money from politicians to vote for them because when that happens, we lose our right to hold them accountable when they finally take power. “

Mr. Kordzo Adzokpa, Municipal Physical Education (PE) Coordinator, said he was impressed that many students and young people showed up for the peace walk to hear the warnings and hoped they would not be fooled by policies of violence and insults for the sake of Ketu South.

He called on everyone to care about staying fit and said, just like peace, “health is important because you need to be healthy to be able to go out and cast your vote on Election Day.”

Notably, the parliamentary candidates of the two main parties, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party or their representatives, disappeared.
