Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has accused Fomena voters of ignoring his colleague Andrew Asiamah Amoako if he does not rescind his decision to run as an independent candidate in the constituency.
According to him, that the deputy chooses to stand independently in the 2020 general elections is a lack of respect for the New Patriotic Party (PNP) under whose umbrella he was elected to parliament.
Speaking at the campaign launch, Mr. Agyapong said Amoako risks being toppled by the party if he ignores the president’s advice and resigns as an independent candidate.
“If you rescind your decision to go independent, I will personally lead the lobby on your behalf after the election. However, if you choose not to listen, then you don’t love the nuclear power plant and we will treat you as such. “
“We will campaign against him with everything we have. As for this, I can promise you. I have tried calling him several times but he has not responded. I pray that he sees the reason ”, he affirmed.
Mr. Agyapong implored people to vote en masse for the new PNP candidate, Philip Ofori Asante, also known as POFA, at a well-attended campaign launch in Kyekyewere, in Fomena.
The highlight of the launch was Mr. Agyapong’s speech and reception given to Aspirants Unite4Victory, the umbrella movement for failed PNP hopefuls who are vigorously campaigning for president and parliamentary candidates across the country.
At least 20 members of Aspirants Unite4Victory broke into Fomena and shared their determination to stay with the group despite their bitter experiences.
One of the organizers said that although they lost the primaries in their constituencies “under very painful circumstances,” they have remained in the party.
“We did not become independent because we believe that the party is supreme. An independent candidate is cancerous for NPP.
“Nana Addo needs an overwhelming majority in parliament to continue her brilliant efforts to change Ghana.”
“No matter how unfairly we have been treated by constituency executives, municipal or district chief executives, we believe that we will harm the party as a whole if we decide to pursue an independent agenda.”
Nhyiaeso MP Kennedy Kankam, who also serves as coordinator for Aspirants Unite4Victory, stated that a party member who chooses to be an independent candidate is turning against the party, the president, and everything he stands for.
“In politics, you take everything that comes your way, but you should always be positive about your future in the game. I will therefore urge Amoako Asiamah, my colleague in parliament, to step down. All our votes must go to Philip Ofori Asante ”.
Former MUSIGA president Bice Osei Kufuor, also known as Obuor, who was unsuccessful in the Asante Akyem South constituency, also echoed Kennedy Kankam’s claim.
“We follow the party, not individuals. It’s about the elephant. No matter how painful your circumstance, you should never let the idea of the independent candidate gain ground in your mind. POFA has been with you and you know him. Let us vote massively for him and the president ”.
Other speakers at the launch of the Fomena campaign were Dr. Nsiah Asare, the Presidential Health Advisor and Henry Kokofu, the Executive Secretary of the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as Mr. Sam Payne, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party in Ashanti. region.
