The father of the new Arsenal signing, Thomas Partey, has revealed that his son received offers from Juventus before joining the Gunners.
Jacob Partey hinted that several major teams wanted to sign the former Atlético de Madrid player before he moved to the Emirates on the deadline.
However, he said they were waiting for an offer from a “bigger club” before Arsenal pounced on him.
“It didn’t really bother us at all because we expected a bigger team to come,” said the father of the new Arsenal star. MyJoyOnline via Football Italia.
“We were aware of the [other teams that were interested]: Juventus, Chelsea and so on. So through all of this, we knew that God was with us. From that moment we started dancing to the rhythm of ‘Party after party’ ”.
“Thomas was willing to play where there are Champions League but [I suggested to him that] Can’t you be where there are no Champions and help them get into the Champions? ”
Juve were looking to reform their squad in this transfer window and a player like Partey, who has emerged as one of the best midfielders in Europe at the moment, would have been a perfect addition.
It is unclear why the Bianconeri did not sign him, but they would have had to activate his 50 million euro buyout clause just like Arsenal did because Atlético were not prepared to negotiate a transfer for the midfielder.
Juve signed Weston McKennie this summer and there are high hopes that the 22-year-old will be a huge success in Italy.
