Joseph Esso: Yahaya wants Hearts of Oak to apologize for new Dreams FC forward

Ghana international shares his take on 23-year-old’s unceremonious departure from phobians

Ghana’s veteran forward Yahaya Mohammed believes that former Hearts of Oak forward Joseph Esso did himself a disservice by turning his back on the club.

Esso parted ways with the Phobians last month after failing to reach an agreement with the club on a contract extension. Belated efforts by the club’s top officials to salvage the situation failed.

He was signed by the Ebusua Dwarfs team of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) in 2018.

“Joseph Esso is a good player, but he has to apologize to Hearts of Oak,” Aduana Stars ace Yahaya, who played for Tanzania’s Azam team in the 2017-18 season, told Asempa FM.

“There is a transaction that should not be made, if your management is listening to me, you should go back to Hearts of Oak, apologize to them and let the child play for Hearts of Oak because they will worry the child in the future.

“You can’t make transactions from Hearts to Kotoko and vice versa. And look at the people crying for the boy to stay, why doesn’t he admire them?

“If there is a possibility outside, he should have told the club because he has a family who takes care of them.

“Esso must not allow phobians to cry for him, his administration must be careful with the child, my advice to Esso is to apologize to the entire Hearts of Oak family.

“To decline an invitation from a boss like [club majority shareholder] Togbe Afedze and also the number of Hearts followers who cried for him to stay was [not the best]. You should look at that.

“I was supposed to play for Hearts of Oak, but due to people’s disrespectful etiquette about me, I was transferred to Azam FC.”

Following his departure from Hearts, Esso has joined GPL’s Dreams FC, having previously been associated with Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold.

Last season, he played 14 Premier League games and found the back of the net on three occasions when the period was interrupted in week 15 by the coronavirus.

In December, the forward was rumored to be heading to Sudanese team Al-Hilal after a strong showing while in international service with Ghana at the 2019 Wafu Cup of Nations in Senegal.
