Josep Maria Bartomeu feels “strong” and will put aside calls to resign, although his presidency is in danger after FC Barcelona confirmed a motion of censure against him. That is the information in Catalonia, as the motion of censure continues to send shockwaves through the club.
The motion was presented with more than 20,000 signatures, of which the club has already approved more than 18,000, much more than the 16,521 needed to consider it successful.
Now, a referendum will be called in which two thirds of the votes are needed to expel Bartomeu.
Some have called for Bartomeu to resign rather than face the indignity of a recall election, but so far he has rejected the idea and, it appears, will continue to do so.
Catalan television reports that Bartomeu is more committed to continuing in his position than a few days ago, although the same cannot be said for his entire board. At least three executives are said to be considering meeting their resignations.
There is expected to be a meeting next week where the resignations will be discussed.
