Barcelona defender Jordi Alba insisted that Ronald Koeman’s system is not the reason for the team’s poor start to the season after helping the Catalan giants beat Levante 1-0 on Sunday.
Captain Lionel Messi scored the only goal of the match to secure a close victory for the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou and end a two-game losing streak.
Alba felt her team was much better defensively on Sunday and also offered her thoughts on the team’s title hopes after narrowing the gap at the top to nine points.
“Defensively, we were much better than in other games and we created opportunities in attack. In the end we scored one of them and got three points. We play well and show responsibility.
“We feel good. I don’t think the system is a problem. We continue to play in the same way. In this game, we play more freely in the middle. We have to adapt to the game because all teams play in different ways. So it depends on the opponent, what the coach wants.
“We have lost points that we should not have done, but the league is open. This year there are different teams up there and it is important for the level in the league, there is a good level in the league and we are trying to stay on top ”.
