Jordan Henderson insists Liverpool “need to adapt” after a penalty against Brighton in injury time ensured the Premier League champions tied at one on the South Coast.

Pascal Gross equalized from the penalty in injury time, canceling Diogo Jota’s goal in a match marked by controversy over VAR.

Neal Maupay had already missed a penalty for Brighton when referee Stuart Atwell signaled the spot after consulting the pitch monitor, while Liverpool had the ball in the back of the net twice only for the VAR to discard both goals from the outside of game.

“It feels very unfair at the moment and very frustrating, but you have to move on,” the Liverpool captain told the club’s website.

“We just have to adapt and give everything for the next matches.

That is the decision that was made, although I don’t think it was the right decision by any means. But it is what it is. We go on and on.

‘I don’t think it affects us. In any case, it makes us stronger as a team.

“ When you go through difficult periods, whether it’s performance, results, whatever and right now it’s probably injuries, it makes the group even more united and stronger.

“We have to try to recover and get the players back in shape as soon as possible.”

Jurgen Klopp’s already injured team took another hit when James Milner was forced to retire with a hamstring injury, though Henderson returned for the first time since the international break as a substitute at halftime.

Brighton defender Adam Webster believes the results will come if the Seagulls can maintain the performance they showed against Liverpool.

Speaking to the club’s website, the 25-year-old said: ‘This season it feels like in many games we have not conceded many shots and Maty Ryan has not had much to do.

“Liverpool are champions for a reason, but we limited them quite a bit on Saturday.

‘We feel like we are building something. Each game presents different challenges and it is not easy to score points in the Premier League, but if we maintain consistency of performances, the results will come. ”
