The 2020 Democratic National Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Setor Dumelo, has admitted defeat in the December 7 election.

The television celebrity lost to Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

She got 37,778 votes to come second to Ms. Alhassan, who got 39,851 votes.

Mr. Dumelo had initially written to the Electoral Commission (EC) to demand a recount of the votes, which raised suspicions of irregularities.

But in a sudden turn of events, the young politician says he wants to put Ghana first.

“I may not be satisfied with the final results or the irregularities that occurred, but first of all I am Ghanaian and will always put people first,” he said in a concession message on Sunday, December 20.

He indicated what he will do next.

“I will continue to cultivate, travel through Ghana, involve people, help entrepreneurs and touch the lives of as many Ghanaians as I can; ‘facta non verba’ “.

In 2004, I performed for KNUST Queens Hall Secretary, I lost. In 2005 I applied for the KNUST Organizing Secretary, Civil Engineering Students Association, I won.

In 2019 I ran for the NDC parliamentary primaries, I won. On December 7, 2020 I ran as a deputy in Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, I lost.

The truth is that every time I lose, I come back stronger because I don’t see it as a loss, I see it as a journey towards perfection. It’s only when you’re down that you appreciate what it takes to get back on your feet.

So I want to thank the more than 37,000 people who voted for me in Ayawaso West Wuogon. From the bottom of my heart, I really appreciate you all. For those who did not vote for me, I hope that in the future I can work and show them that I am worthy of their vote.

Lydia was told by many that it was impossible for me to even dream of winning, but the numbers I came in and you winning by a very small margin, especially in an NPP stronghold, makes me very proud of the entire campaign.

I may not be satisfied with the end results or irregularities, but first of all I am Ghanaian and will always put people first. “Ut omnes onum Sent.”

So I am ready to help make this district the best. (I also have new Wellinton boots for you) Mega tsi dzi o

To my fellow actors and those in the creative arts industry who supported me, God bless each and every one of you, many of you did so without me having to ask and I appreciate the overwhelming show of support.

Whats Next?

I will continue to farm, travel Ghana, involve people, help entrepreneurs and touch the lives of as many Ghanaians as I can; “Facta non verba”.

I thank Almighty God for bringing me here and my family and friends, God bless each and everyone for all the support. To the executives in my constituency, the branch executives, and everyone who made this career possible, especially the young members of the vibrant campaign team, Chale do it all !!!

In my Likpe language they say “… Onanto eso lesasaa borleke …” It means that thank God everything will be fine.

God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong. “Ad astra per aspera”
