JHS 2, SHS 2 students return to school in October; academic year for other pre-tertiary students suspended until January

President Akufo-Addo has announced the resumption of school for sophomores in middle and high schools across the country on October 5, 2020.

According to him, the move is part of efforts to ensure they complete their academic work while the government works to ease restrictions in the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus.

He made these comments during his 16th address to the nation on measures taken to curb the spread of the virus on August 30.

The students are expected to complete their academic work on December 14, 2020, the president said amid strict adherence to Covid-19 security protocols.

“With middle high schools operating with a class size of 30 and high schools with a class size of 25, SHS 2 and JHS 2 students will be in school for 10 weeks to study and write their final exams. period, ”he said.

This decision was made by the Ghana Education Service (GES) after consulting with industry stakeholders.

He further explained that the students in the guest houses will return on October 5, while the day students “will travel from home to their respective schools on the same date.”

“SHS 2 students in pensions must return to their different dormitories on October 5, while day students, fully respecting the Covid-19 protocols, will travel from home to their respective schools on the same date,” explained President Akufo -Addo on Sunday.

Schools will undergo fumigation and disinfection prior to implementation of the directive.

All students, teaching and non-teaching staff, will receive reusable face masks.

“Each school will have Veronica Buckets, gallons of liquid soap, rolls or tissue paper, heat guns and 200-mil containers of disinfectant.

Meanwhile, “JHS 2 students will get one hot meal a day.”
