Gabriel Jesus admitted that victory over Liverpool this weekend is vital if Manchester City are to regain the Premier League title.
Jesus made a scoring comeback from a thigh injury from the bench during Tuesday’s 3-0 Champions League win over Olympiacos.
The Brazilian is on target to start against the league leaders and claimed securing maximum points is crucial as City currently five behind Liverpool have played one game less.
“It is a very important game for us, it is a direct confrontation against the leader of the table,” said Jesús.
“We need to win those three points if we want to aspire to win the Premier League again. We have to be very focused, especially playing at home. We have to play our way and try to win the game. ‘
Jesus hadn’t appeared since City’s first game of the season on the road against Wolves on September 21 and has been working overtime in the gym to return before the international break.
It gives Pep Guardiola another option up front, with 20-year-old Ferran Torres who has performed admirably in the absence of Jesús and Sergio Agüero.
“When I got injured, I felt very sad the first few days, that’s normal,” Jesus added. But I focused on my recovery, worked hard every day, and came back sooner than expected.
“The manager gave me the opportunity to play a few minutes against Olympiacos and I am happy to have contributed.”
