Ghana’s Election Commissioner Jean Mensa is reported to have once again failed to appear in parliament when invited.

He was expected to appear before parliament to brief the House on how prepared the EC is as Election Day approaches.

The whip of the head of the minority in parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, while speaking about the absence of the EC on Thursday, November 5, 2020, requested that she be subpoenaed before the House after the House waited for her arrival for hours.

He described the apparent attitude of the EC president as disrespectful; stating that he had run over the house.

Speaking in parliament, he said “… please let him run us over, that’s not fair. We need you to tell us where it is. She cannot refuse to appear before us and must be summoned.

“She has always avoided this house. It is not fair that we allow this to continue, Mr. President … we must summon her to be here.

However, the majority leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, explained that Jean Mensa had broadcast an announcement about his trip from which he would return this afternoon.

According to him, the commission received the letter of invitation to parliament quite late; at 5pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, which was unfortunate because EC officials already had their programs planned and they were not available.

It was also reported that the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, suspended the session due to the absence of the EC President.

Meanwhile, the parliament hopes to have it on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
