The independent parliamentary candidate for the Damongo constituency of the Savannah region, David Tiki Dange, has said that he has never been a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has never had a political party card in his life.
Speaking on the Bole-based Nkilgi FM morning show on October 5, 2020, Mr. Tiki asks; “How do you fire someone who is not a member of your party?”
He said he respects the NDC Secretary General, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who should have done his checks before presenting his list of NDC members who have been fired because they are running in the upcoming parliamentary elections as independent candidates.
Mr. Tiki said that it is a mistake of Asiedu Nketia because; “I have never been a member of any political party. I voluntarily retired as a State Attorney and Attorney in 2019 ”.
Mr. Tiki Dange also in a statement on November 4, 2020 said “; My attention has been drawn to a letter circulating on social media that seeks to terminate the membership of certain members of the NDC who have obtained the Election Commission nomination to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections as independent candidates. I was listed as such, the tenth on the list ”.
“I want to say categorically that I have never been a member of the NDC and I have never had a political party card in my life.”
The candidate for the Independent Parliament for the Damongo Constituency also said; “One would have expected a meticulous investigation to determine the authenticity of this fact before the compilation of such a list.”
He said; “As much as I respect the NDC as a party, I regret not having had any political activity with any party member at any time and anywhere.”
Mr. Tiki also threatened to testify; “Consequently, I have notified my attorneys about the anomaly to respond as soon as possible.”
Tiki Dange and seventeen others were reportedly fired from the NDC for submitting their nominations to run as independent candidates in the 2020 elections.
Mr. Abraham Nbido, who is running for independent Parliament in the Salaga Sur constituency of the Savannah region, is also affected.
The NDC Secretary General, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, in a statement dated November 3, 2020, said that 18 NDC members competing in the 2020 elections as independent candidates have been fired from the party.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia said that NDC members have lost their membership because they obtained forms to compete as independent candidates.
