President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged the leaders and people of the Upper East region to look favorably upon the New Patriotic Party government by massively voting for him and the party’s parliamentary candidates on December 7, 2020.
Addressing a meeting of the Chamber of Chiefs of the Upper East Region, President Akufo-Addo declared that the Upper East Region, since the advent of the Fourth Republic, does not look favorably on the PNP or in the presidential elections nor in the parliamentary.
“The presidential candidates of my party, all three; Professor Adu Boahen, John Agyekum Kufuor and I have never won a majority of the popular votes in the Upper East region and, in fact, our party has not done well in the parliamentary elections. Three of the 15 seats in the Region are currently held by the New Patriotic Party, ”he said.
The President continued: “What I am respectfully asking you is that, given what is happening in this country over the past three to four years, from a government that has fulfilled the overwhelming majority of its commitments to the people of Ghana . , and has shown its determination to work in the interest of all the peoples of Ghana without discrimination, that this time the Upper East welcomes the elephant party and helps us to become the majority party in the Upper East ”.
President Akufo-Addo told the Upper East Region Chamber of Chiefs that, in his three and a half years in office, he has had the opportunity to show the people of Ghana the honesty with which he made the promises to them. 2016..
Having served only as Attorney General and Minister for Foreign Affairs in the Government of President Kufuor, the President told the House that, prior to the 2016 elections, “he had no record as President to present to the people of Ghana, and therefore I made a series of promises to the people of Ghana that if they give me the opportunity, with the blessing of the Almighty, there are certain things that I will do. “
It was the acceptance of those promises, and also as a consequence of the poor governance of the then Mahama administration, the president explained, that led the Ghanaian people to give him the resounding victory of December 7, 2016.
“Today I am no longer in the position I had in 2016. I have been responsible for the governance of this country for almost four years. So, in 2020, I go to the people, not just with promises but with my record in governance. “
Building on his strong performance record in office, he told the Chiefs that “I have treated them (the people of Ghana) honestly. It is important to me that I be considered a man of integrity. A man who did not come to deceive the people of Ghana, but to help the development of our nation ”.
