Former Crystal Palace striker Kwesi Appiah believes his compatriot will fit in perfectly with Mikel Arteta’s team following his departure from Atlético de Madrid
Kwesi Appiah has endorsed Thomas Partey to adapt to the style of Mikel Arteta following his transfer of 45 million pounds (50 million euros / 58 million dollars) from Atlético de Madrid of La Liga.
Arsenal completed a late raid for the Ghana international on the transfer deadline day to bolster their midfield.
The former Crystal Palace, Reading and AFC Wimbledon forward hopes the 27-year-old will thrive at Emirates Stadium, due to his ability to use the ball in central areas.
“Under [Mikel] Arteta them [Arsenal] He’s playing with a lot of ball possession and from behind and that will really suit his style because he’s so comfortable with the ball, “Appiah said. BBC Sport.
“Obviously, playing in Spain is also a very technical league, so there is a lot of ball possession and passing, so it will suit him very well.”
“The best teams in England play that way too, so you’re looking at a player who’s going to fit in quite easily.
“You look at Manchester United and the way [Bruno] Fernandes and the way he has coped with the Premier League so I see it as a similar transition for Thomas.
“He has that quality and style of play that Arsenal are looking to play, so it will be a perfect match.”
Appiah, who participated with the Black Stars in the 2015 African Cup of Nations when they finished runner-up for the Ivory Coast, has no doubts that the former Real Mallorca and Almería player will also fit into the Gunners’ dressing room.
“He’s a very nice down-to-earth guy and he’s sure he talks well and gets along with the players,” he continued.
“There are some personalities there [at Arsenal] that will match his energy and joy, so I am sure he will fit in very well in the dressing room and be one of the leaders among the players as well. “
Partey enjoyed success with coach Diego Simeone at the Estadio Metropolitano, winning the Uefa Europa League in the 2017-18 season and also the UEFA Super Cup in 2018.
He is likely to bow when the Gunners take on Manchester City on October 17 at the Etihad Stadium.
