Marcel Desailly was a bit disappointed by Hakim Ziyech’s performance for Chelsea against Atletico Madrid yesterday, speaking live on BeINSports.
Ziyech scored his first goal at Stamford Bridge for the Blues last night in what was an extremely routine 2-0 Champions League victory over Madrid.
Thomas Tuchel’s team made their Spanish guests look like amateurs and not a team that is at the top of La Liga.
Despite scoring for the third time this season, Desailly was not overly impressed with Ziyech’s overall display.
The former Chelsea center-back admitted: “When you look at Ziyech’s performance, I really don’t think it was great.
“He missed a lot of crosses. It was not very effective in dribbling.
“But the collective and the spirit collectively took Chelsea to a different level, in possession of the ball and in how they played.”
The kind of display that Desailly describes has been an all too familiar story for Ziyech since he signed for Ajax last year.
WhoScored.com stated that Ziyech had three missed touches against Atlético, failed to complete an accurate cross and achieved 79.6% accuracy on the pass.
They also reported that he made three key passes and the same number of dribbles.
While definitely not the complete package with a Chelsea jersey yet, the 27-year-old is starting to unite his talents.
Tuchel has started to entrust more responsibility to the £ 100.00-a-week striker (Spotrac), having knocked him out of four straight Premier League matches early in his reign.
Your next task is to add more goals and assists to your game.
With the possibilities Chelsea is creating, you shouldn’t be too far from increasing your account.
The Chelsea Chronicle view
In fact, I thought Ziyech had a pretty efficient night against Atlético.
Of course, he lost a few passes and his touch wasn’t quite right, but I’ve almost come to accept those parts of his game now.
The most important thing was his goal and to smile again.
