Mrs. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, elected Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, admitted for the first time that the decision to quit her job, replace her late husband and run as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the area it was not an easy one.

The 47-year-old police officer who was with the Interpol Unit at the headquarters of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Accra, resigned as chief inspector to begin her political journey on October 11, 2020.

She promised to chart the path of women’s empowerment and youth development in the area considering the unique nature of the area’s residents.

Mrs. Ophelia Mensah Hayford, who replaced her husband, who was assassinated while returning from one of his campaign rounds in the recently concluded elections, was able to get 36,021 against her competitor, Mr. James Odziifo Essoun of the Democratic National Congress (NDC ), which had 32,438 votes.

He even won some important strongholds from the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), indicating that his victory is for the entire people and not just for the PNP.
