The Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie, the Metropolitan Catholic Archbishop of Accra, says that true Christians who go through mockery, disappointment and physical pain are inevitable, as they have chosen to take up their cross and follow Jesus Christ.
He said that their leader Jesus Christ suffered intense physical pain that included whipping, so they should be prepared for tough and difficult times.
“His only sin was to heal the sick, open the eye of the blind and heal the lepers and the same people asked for his crucifixion. His disciples abandoned him and he felt that both Heaven and Earth had betrayed him. He hung on the cross for three hours where he gave up the spirit, ”he said.
The Archbishop said this while delivering the homily on Friday at the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit during the celebration of ‘Good Friday’ as part of the Easter holiday observed by Christians around the world.
He said that Christ suffered and died for the salvation of man and therefore Christians must deny themselves earthly pleasures to follow him.
“Sometimes our family and friends will betray us, sometimes we will go through difficulties and disappointments await, and the enemy will appear to have won, but we must let the cross and the suffering of Christ lead us to stand for him to the end. ,” The advertisement.
Most of Reverend Kwofi advised Christians not to allow their personal aspirations, interests, power and desire to stick them to earthly satisfaction, but to submit to the word of God.
He reminded believers of the biblical verse from Philippians 2:12, which asked them to work out their salvation with fear and trembling and to follow in Christ’s footsteps in love and truth while forgiving each other of their sins.

The show aimed to educate and remind Christians of the painful and passionate encounter between Jesus Christ, Pontius Pilate, the Jews, and the Roman soldiers before their death and the need for them not to allow Christ’s suffering to be in vain.
Subsequently, a crucifix was placed before the altar for believers to pray and individually bow to it with their needs with the ritual interspersed with local hymns and chants.
The usual move for the Stations of the Cross and the touching of the crucifix did not take place during this year’s celebration due to COVID-19 security protocols.
All Catholic churches will mark Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday as part of the celebration.
