The presidential candidate for the National People’s Convention (PNC), David Apasera, has said that the party he leads does not appear to be close to power.
That, in his view, has contributed to the party’s inability to attract investors who will finance its political campaigns and activities.
Apasera told CTV’s Anopa Dwabre Mu host, Kwame Appiah Kubi, in an interview on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, that the party currently does not have the necessary resources to fund its campaign activities in the lead up to the 2020 elections. .
“… The PNC does not have the resources that may be required and, you know that the laws of the country require that no one person will finance it, the party has to appeal to the general public and the people, etc. , companies, etc., but what company is going to put their money on you when they think you are far from power? ” I ask.
“A commercial company or an individual that is financing it must do so with a purpose: one, is to finance it for the democratic process that we are going through if the person believes that we need a democratic process or to finance it that you come to power and then you will be of influence and then you will support the person’s business agenda.
“But, you know, it doesn’t seem like we’re close to power, so we have very few people who will invest in our cause, so that’s the main thing and I think that’s one of the reasons why they’re finding it difficult, but with in time, Ghanaians will be advised, ”he said.
According to the former Bolgatanga deputy, “politics has been monetized in our country at a level that not only do they look at you per se, but also what you can offer and those of the smaller parties, you find it difficult to get such support to win a parliamentary seat; that has been the thing, otherwise, our deputies who have been in parliament, we comply and if you go to my constituency and ask for me in any village, in any community, they will talk to you about me, I still stand firm when I come to my constituency and that happens with all those other people who have been parliamentarians of the PNC, but the question now is whether you still have to carry out a campaign in terms of resources, but that despite the fact that the people who have had the opportunity making a comparison between our candidates and the people who are there, now we are turning around to vote for the PNC and that is why we are hopeful that this time we will win many seats ”.
“We have our parliamentary candidates, who are prepared to selflessly get people out of trouble, but they don’t have to have the money to come and pay people to vote or come pay people to vote,” he said.
