Israeli Ambassador to Ghana Ms. Shani Cooper praised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and her government for the way they handle the deadly coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
She said the leadership was very good and that it had been direct, firm and decisive.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview in Accra, the ambassador said that managing the COVID-19 pandemic involved many things, including human lives, the safety of health workers, the environment, the economy and the future, and said all those necessary tactics and a high level of experience to handle.
He said that any decision made could solve the problem, worsen it or not have any impact, adding that, put in the balance, the government had done well with the steps it had taken.
Ms. Cooper said the situation also had some emotional aspects, which could not be taken for granted, especially people who could not touch their loved ones, grandmothers who could not hug their grandchildren, and families and friends who did not. could be visited.
In all of this, he said, what each leader would do would be to ensure that the decisions made would yield positive results, adding that the Ghanaian government had shown that it was in control.

The ambassador said Israel had supported the COVID-19 response program in Ghana with 800 nasal masks and 375 medical gowns.
“We are now moving away from immediate emergency aid to sustainable cooperation, and we are using available local materials and labor,” he said.
Ghana beyond aid
Ms. Cooper revealed that Israel had supported the Ghana Beyond Aid policy.
In line with bilateral relations between Israel and Ghana, he said, he started a knowledge-sharing program, but had to stop it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, he said, some of the projects were carried out and 70 Ghanaian students were currently in Israel to receive training in agriculture.
When they returned, he said, another group of 70 students would travel to Israel for the same training.
He explained that the program provided opportunities for students to gain knowledge and experience in innovations as well as in Diaspora issues.
“We are currently working with new companies,” he added.
National Day
The ambassador noted that the regular celebrations that characterized Israel’s National Day could not take place last week due to the pandemic.
Israel’s Independence Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the establishment of the State of Israel on April 28, 1948.
Connection
Ms Cooper praised the Ghanaians for their hospitality and said that the connection between the peoples of Israel and Ghana was very spiritual and very deep.
She said that when the Israelis met the Ghanaians, they felt very free and very at home.
