Northeast United FC has halted its 2020-21 ISL training preparations due to two positive cases of COVID-19 in the team
They will play their first ISL game of the season against Mumbai City FC on November 21 at the Tilak Maidan
The Indian Super League (ISL) franchise NorthEast United FC (NEUFC) has halted its training process due to the appearance of two positive COVID-19s among its players.
The NEUFC team has been training at the Panchayat field in the North Goa city of Candolim. The land is very close to the team’s hotel and the team has been using the hotel’s shuttle services to travel from one place to another.
The Highlanders were in high spirits after claiming a victory in their preseason friendly over Hyderabad FC at the aforementioned training ground with a score of 2-1. However, they received the unfortunate news of two positive cases in the squad, which means that the entire contingent must now go into self-isolation.
According to TOI, NEUFC head coach Gerard Nus gave the entire team a day off from the training regimen on Monday, while the team had to spend Tuesday inside their respective hotel rooms.
NorthEast United FC’s return to the field is now dependent on the latest test results
The ISL guidelines state that in the situation of a single positive COVID-19 case on any team, all squad members must be temporarily quarantined in their hotel rooms. Two negative tests will be required for infected personnel for their official return to the bubble ecosystem.
The NorthEast United FC team awaits the speedy recovery of its two members to resume their preparations in full force. They are scheduled to face Mumbai City FC on November 21, 2020 in their first game of the season at Tilak Maidan.
