A New Year’s party for 150 people hosted by Brazilian soccer player Neymar will be subject to strict health rules to try to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus, organizers said.

The Paris St Germain forward has come under heavy criticism since details of the event were revealed in a Rio de Janeiro newspaper over the weekend.

But the agency hosting the party said reports that 500 friends and celebrities were supposed to attend were not true and that only 150 people would be at the multi-day celebration in Mangaratiba, about 105 kilometers off the coast of Rio.

“The event will be held in compliance with all the sanitary standards determined by public bodies,” the Fabrica agency said in a statement.

The event is private and all relevant permits have been obtained, he added.

Local Mangaratiba authorities were not available for comment. Neymar’s press office did not immediately respond to the text messages.

Follow the PSG star who denies allegations of disobeying Covid rules to host a five-day party in which 500 people participated at his mansion in Brazil.

Local reports in Mangaratiba, near Rio de Janeiro, say the 28-year-old started the party on December 25 with the intention of continuing until the New Year.

Eyewitnesses claimed that dozens of guests have been coming and going with Neymar banning mobile phones to keep the party secret and also soundproofing an annex of the mansion to prevent neighbors from hearing the noise.

CNN Brazil reported that Neymar’s representatives denied that the party was taking place, but the Mangaratiba City Council has criticized him for “damaging sanitary principles.”

In a statement, the local authority said that “the party was not officially notified and that an event for 500 people should, at least, have been notified to the municipality.”

A local government source told CNN: ‘There is no way to legislate in a particular event, but if Neymar has a party here (Mangaratiba), he is seriously damaging the sanitary principles, the current decrees and the recommendations of the city council to only carry out small family parties.

‘The population is unhappy with the party and the repercussions that the name of the city has. The fact is a lack of sanitary respect and totally absurd.

Neymar’s 10,000-square-meter property features six suites, a helipad, tennis court, heated underground cellar with capacity for 3,000 bottles of wine, an underground nightclub, a spa with heated Jacuzzi, steam sauna, massage room, gym and jetty for motor boats.

The PSG star was feared to have broken his ankle after being carried out on a stretcher during a Ligue 1 clash with Lyon earlier this month.

Subsequent medical examinations were said to have been ‘reassuring’, although the 28-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of 2020.

Brazil has had almost 7.5 million confirmed cases of Covid, the third highest in the world, and 191,139 deaths, the second highest after the United States, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
