The Italian club has been listed as a possible landing site, but the club does not appear to believe it can strike a deal.
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio says there is “nothing” in the reports linking his team to Lionel Messi, stating that the links between the Barcelona star and the Serie A club are not based on reality. .
Messi has been linked to several of the best clubs in the world over the past week, and recently revealed his intention to leave Barcelona this summer.
That decision would see Messi end a two-decade association with the Spanish club in the wake of the team’s failures in La Liga and the Champions League last season that have seemingly proven to be the last straw.
Several major clubs have been linked to the Barcelona icon, with Inter joining teams such as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, among which they are linked to what would undoubtedly be a big profit move.
But Ausilio says a move for Messi is impossible, even if the club would love to sign a player of that caliber.
“You told the truth saying there is nothing. I don’t know where certain ideas come from,” he said. Sky sports.
“If we talk about Messi, there is no club that does not want to sign him [but] the reality is different. In the market, we must be careful and smart.
“We know what we have to do. First, the exits. Through them we will finance newcomers.
“The opportunities are few and the ones we can take advantage of are not that expensive.”
Messi is not the only Barça star that Inter has been linked with, as the club has also been listed as a possible landing spot for midfielder Arturo Vidal.
The Chilean, who has experience in Serie A with Juventus, has declared that he would be open to returning to Italy with his former club.
Ausilio says there is certainly interest from Inter as well, although that will depend on when and how Vidal leaves Barcelona.
“We like Arturo Vidal, sure, but now he’s a Barcelona player,” he said.
“If they let him go in the right conditions, we will consider signing him.”
