Inconsistent GPL Seasons Affecting Goalkeeper Performance: Richard Kingson

Black Stars goalkeeping coach Richard Kingson has opined that the inconsistencies that have characterized Ghana’s Premier League seasons in recent times are affecting the performance of goalkeepers in the country.

Known for producing good shooting blocks in the past, it now seems that only the best clubs in the country boast of decent goalkeepers, although there are some good goalkeepers on some other teams.

According to Richard Kingson, the decline in goalkeeping performance can be attributed to the distractions that have plagued Ghana’s Premier League campaign in recent seasons.

“The inconsistency that has puzzled the GPL is a major factor that has reduced the performance of goalkeepers in Ghana.

“Some of the goalkeepers don’t have time to train personally to improve their game,” the former Accra Grand Olympics goalkeeper said in an interview with Accra-based Angel FM.

Richard Kingson, 42, also lamented the number of people who do not respect the role that goalkeepers play on their various teams.

“Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t respect the role of goalkeepers in a deadline,” he added.

Kingson is considered one of the best pairs of hands in Ghana. He played in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup tournaments, as well as the 2008 African Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana.
