I’m disabled too, but I’m not using it as an excuse – Krachi West DCE tells PWD

The Krachi West Township Chief Executive is urging People with Disabilities (PWD) to stop making excuses.

According to Mr. Douglas Osei Nti, although he is disabled, he has never allowed that to prevent him from working hard or aspiring to more in life.

Speaking during the presentation of articles to some 64 people with disabilities in the municipality by the assembly, the MCE said that the initiative is part of the government’s efforts to make life with disabilities more bearable.

In delivering the items, Mr. Douglas Osei Nti urged the recipients to put them to good use so that they can take care of their families and themselves.

“Look at me, I am disabled, but that did not stop me from becoming what I am today and I urge you all to put your physical disabilities behind you and work hard,” he said.

Mr. Osei Nti mentioned that in 2018; a year after he took over as DCE for the area, about 55 people were supported and this is the second batch for a total of 119 since 2017.

According to him, another group of people will have their items delivered before the Christmas holidays.

However, the DCE advised beneficiaries to take good care of the items and not be tempted to sell them.

These items included freezers, shoe-making machines, miscellaneous supplies, corn-milling machines, among others.

For her part, Nana Ofosu Appiah, head of Motodua and Twafohene of the Krachi Traditional Area, urged beneficiaries to remain law-abiding citizens while using their items.

Speaking to JoyNews, Social Welfare Officer Benjamin Attipoe said the articles were to address the specific needs of beneficiaries.

According to him, a team from his department visited all the selected beneficiaries to seek their opinion before the assembly bought the items.
