The standard-bearer of the Democratic National Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has asked members of the Security Services who will participate in the special voting exercise on December 1 to vote for him.
In an open letter to the Security Services, John Mahama said that voting for him will be a vote for “fair treatment, fast promotions, national unity and a mutual sense of belonging within the security services and across the country.”
According to him, the government led by Akufo-Addo has sacrificed time-tested conventions, rules and regulations in the Security Services and in all sectors of the nation.
He said: “Discipline has been compromised and morale has been weakened in the Services. Promotions are no longer based on merit. To top it all, a culture of silence hangs over the security services due to infiltration by partisan elements. Such is the level of impunity for the president’s private militia that they can attack officers and NCOs and get away with it. “
To remedy the situation described, the NDC flag bearer stated that once elected to the position it will be a high priority to depoliticize the Security Services and restore discipline and transparency in the affairs of the Service.
“I commit to the security services that, as of January 7, 2021 God willing, under my administration, we will not only ensure the depoliticization of the security services, but also restore both discipline and transparency to lift the moral. This is my solemn commitment to create opportunities for you, not just for a few, ”he said.
John Dramani Mahama further called on the “few who may be tempted to make the orders of the powers that be” to rescind their decision and “choose to work in the broader national interest.”
“I urge you to join the crusade to rescue the nation and restore a sense of calm and national unity.”
He promised to be “a commander-in-chief for all when he is elected president of the Republic of Ghana.”
