The doors of the Barça first team have been opened for Ilaix Moriba, one of La Masia’s recent graduates.
However, the coronavirus pandemic has forced him to put his passion for football on hold: hairdressing.
Ronald Koeman handed Ilaix his debut on January 21 against Cornella, just two days after his 18th birthday, and showed some signs of what he’s capable of.
He was also part of the squad for the next round, with Barcelona taking on Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, though he did not make an appearance in their narrow 2-1 victory.
In April 2019, at 16, Barcelona renewed their contract until 2022, inserting a release clause of 100 million euros, a record for someone his age, as he had impressed them since his 2010 arrival from Espanyol.

In 2019, he began attending the Josep Pons school, one of the associates of La Masia to show his players a life away from football.
“Our philosophy is similar to La Masia’s,” said Pons.
“It is based on values, a culture of effort, humility and constant improvement”.
Ilaix is not the first Barcelona player to attend school. Kike Saverio, four years older than him, did the same during his time at the club, although now he is in Osasuna.
“Ilaix has always had a perfect attitude,” added Pons.
“He’s very clever. Some people told me that he might not have discipline, but he’s actually a very disciplined guy.
“I only have positive things to say about him.”
Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has left Ilaix without his passion for hairdressing, and Barcelona are looking to reduce the contact their players have with each other.
