If you haven’t seen our dams then you haven’t toured your own backyard – Bawumia jabs Mahama

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia criticized the standard bearer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, for refusing to acknowledge that the Akufo-Addo government has built dams.

This comes after former President Mahama at one of his campaign rallies said that the One-Village One-Dam (1V1D) policy under the sitting government was non-existent.

In reaction to this, Dr. Bawumia said: “If he [Mr Mahama] you go to your constituency which is Bole, you will see that we have built about 10 dams, so if you say you don’t see the dams in the northern regions, that means you are not touring your own constituency.

According to the vice president, 435 dams have been built in various parts of the five northern regions and more are being built.

In an interview in Ekosiisen by Asempa FM On Wednesday, Dr. Bawumia touted the good works of the government to make water easily accessible to farmers, particularly in areas where there are water-related challenges.

The Vice President noted that the beneficiaries of the completed dams have consistently praised and expressed their gratitude to the Akufo-Addo administration for implementing such an initiative.

In his view, citizens who do not face water-related challenges would not appreciate the 1V1D policy as critical parts in northern regions where residents struggle to get water to irrigate their farms.

“During my tour of the north of the country, most of the bosses that I met praised the government because the 1V1D has really helped them and they are asking for more,” he said.

Furthermore, he acknowledged that the 1V1D has also played a key role in the country’s agricultural sector, as the Akufo-Addo government implements the plantation for food and jobs.
