Manasseh Azure Awuni, a freelance investigative journalist, received an email from a stranger threatening to delete him like a rat after he published his latest article entitled “ERROR Judicial Commission and Akufo-Addo Coup.”

In that article, the journalist tried to explore the anomalies with the Techiman South parliamentary results that are in dispute and the EC’s denial of the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) areas of their fundamental human right to representation. fair in Parliament. .

Manasseh Azure suggested that if these issues are not resolved urgently, it will be tantamount to a “coup against the legislative arm of the government.”

Speaking in the Joy News news archive, Manasseh Azure Awuni revealed that the latest threat came in the form of an email in which the sender stated that [Manasseh] he was “lucky to keep walking as a free man.”

He said the email further said:

“Let me tell you Manasseh or whatever your name is, we good citizens of Ghana will not sit around and wait for a few bad guys like you to destroy that beautiful country. If the condition demands that we eliminate rats like you, we will not give up our oars to do exactly that.

“We are monitoring the current situation in the country very closely, and when it gets out of control, we will act quickly to make sure that we eliminate them to definitively characterize these riots that are occurring.”

Manasseh Azure Awuni added that the email referred to the shooting death of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale by unknown individuals.

“We will chase you very soon. I know and firmly believe that cowards are the ones who die many times before they die, but a brave journalist who perceives himself as you is going to fight like a warrior, fighting in the battle of power. But do not forget the death of Ahmed Suale, let that blood that was sacrificed to pacify the spirit of our ancestors serve as a reminder. The last email that threatened the journalist could not be the first. In 2017, Manasseh Azure Awuni reported to CID headquarters, where he was referred to the Cyber ​​Security Unit of the Ghana Police Service about a similar death threat he had received via text message for fulfilling his professional duty.

The threat continued and in 2019, due to another death threat, he had to temporarily relocate to South Africa to save his life.

Albert Kan-Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, offered him police protection.

Manasseh Azure Awuni said that he has already released such an email that he received from some of the top police officers and that he will formally report the threat and forward the full content of the email to the police.
